Terms of Service

Aldus is a personal library for e-books you already have. You upload EPUB files, or import them from a catalog you control, and we store them, process them for reading, and serve them back to you in a web reader and over standard protocols your other reading apps understand.

We do not sell, lend or supply books. Every file in your library got there because you put it there.

You need an account, and a working email address to verify it. You are responsible for keeping your credentials to yourself and for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.

One person, one account. Do not share an account with other people or hand your library to someone else to use.

Only upload files you have the right to store and read. That means books you bought, books you made, public-domain works, and anything else you hold the necessary rights to. It does not mean material you obtained without permission.

You also agree not to use Aldus to:

• store or distribute content that is unlawful where you are;
• redistribute copyrighted work to other people, including by sharing your feed credentials;
• attack, overload or probe the service, or work around its limits;
• connect it to external catalogs you are not authorised to access.

Your library is private by default. Feed and sync endpoints are protected by credentials issued to you alone — treat them like passwords, because anyone holding them can read your library.

Accounts have a storage allowance and a maximum size for a single upload. The current figures are shown in the app, and we may adjust them; if a change would reduce what you already store, we will tell you first and give you time to download your files.

Aldus is offered as it is. We work to keep it running and to keep your files intact, but we do not promise uninterrupted service, and we cannot guarantee that a book will always render exactly as its publisher intended — e-book files vary enormously in quality.

Keep your own copies of anything you cannot replace. You can download your original files at any time, and you should.

You can delete your account at any time from your settings. Doing so removes your books, annotations, reading history and account record — see the privacy policy for exactly what happens and when.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that puts the service or other users at risk, or that we are legally required to act on. Except where the breach is serious or we have no choice, we will contact you first and give you a chance to export your files.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data where you had the ability to keep your own copy. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

We will update this page when the service changes, and we will give notice of anything that materially reduces your rights before it takes effect. Continuing to use Aldus after a change means you accept the revised terms.
